British Values at Supreme Start School
At Supreme Start School, we help our children grow into confident, kind and responsible members of our community. British Values are at the heart of what we do every day, and we make sure pupils learn about them in real, meaningful and enjoyable ways.
Below are the five British Values and how we bring them to life in our school.
1. Democracy
At Supreme Start School, every child’s voice matters. We teach democracy by giving pupils real opportunities to share their ideas and make decisions that affect school life.
What this looks like in our school:
For example:
- Children vote for class choices and activities or charities they want to support
- “Foodie Fridays” help pupils understand how democracy works — they vote for the food they want to try, we talk about fairness, and learn that everyone’s opinion counts
- Pupils take part in discussions where they learn to listen, share and respect different viewpoints
2. The Rule of Law
We help children understand why rules keep us safe and happy. Our school rules are clear, fair and followed by everyone.
In school, this includes:
- Talking about rules in circle time
- Helping children understand the consequences of actions, with right or wrong
- Celebrating pupils who make positive choices
3. Individual Liberty
We encourage children to become confident, independent learners who know they have choices — and who use those choices safely and responsibly.
We support this through:
- Allowing children to choose activities within lessons and for additional activities
- Teaching pupils how to express themselves respectfully
- Helping children build confidence in trying new activities, foods, experiences
4.Mutual Respect
Respect is at the heart of Supreme Start School. We teach children to treat everyone with kindness, understanding and care.
This looks like:
- We have kind hands and friendly voices
- Celebrating achievements big and small
- Learning how to disagree respectfully
5. Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs
Our school community is wonderfully diverse, and we celebrate that. We make sure children learn about different cultures, religions and traditions so they grow up understanding and valuing others. Our children come from all different faiths, countries and backgrounds and we respect and understand that about each other.
Some examples from our school:
- Visiting different places of worship, including the Hindu temple, the local church and the mosque
- Learning about celebrations from around the world, such as Chinese New Year and Eid
- Encouraging questions, curiosity and open-mindedness
Bringing British Values to Life
We weave these values through every part of school life — in lessons, in play, themed days and special events.
Examples include:
- Charity events, where children experience kindness, community and responsibility
- Foodie Fridays, helping children understand choice, fairness and democracy
- Visits to places of prayer, promoting tolerance and understanding
- Daily routines that encourage respect, independence and teamwork
At Supreme Start School, British Values aren’t just taught — they’re lived, shared and celebrated.
