Head Teacher’s Welcome
Welcome to Supreme Start School.
As Headteacher, I am delighted to introduce you to our vibrant learning community. Supreme Start is a specialist primary school in Oldham providing education for children aged 5–11. We are dedicated to helping children with additional needs, particularly those with ASD or communication and interaction difficulties.
We support every child to feel safe, understood and included; building confidence, communication, and self-regulation so they enjoy learning, participate fully and thrive in their own independent way.
We have crafted an individualized curriculum which is tailored to each child and is centred on Communication and Language as our golden thread running through every element of the timetable.
From the onset, wherever their starting point, our curriculum allows our children to make progress, achieve and be successful; their understanding of our Big Questions and concepts are central throughout each pathway, through our Puffin (engagement), Peacock (semi-formal) and our Flamingo (formal) curriculum. Our flexible system allows children to advance both horizontally and vertically, ensuring that their educational experiences are tailored to their specific needs and learning pace. Our integration of the NEN Framework (previously the AET Framework) is central to tracking their progress and understanding.
We prioritise reading and phonics, ensuring that this is a feature of our children’s daily diet. We have two highly trained Reading Leaders on our staff team who delivery high-quality phonics daily to all of our children, we incorporate story time, reading and rhyme time, as well as independent interventions where needed and we encourage parents to take part in reading with their child at home every day. More information on this can be located in the Parents’ and Families’ section of the website.
Central to everything that we do is our Personal Development offer. We know that our children want and need to learn independence and have the skills necessary to be able to thrive in later life. Our PD offer is tailored so that each child has opportunities to learn social skills, stay safe, and learn key life skills. We are proud of our universal offer and we know that it has an extremely positive impact on our children and their families.
Finally, we are here to support. Being a parent of a child with SEND can be difficult and challenging, whilst extremely rewarding but we work in partnership with all of our stakeholders to provide a caring, nurturing, engaging and safe environment for our Supreme Family and are here to support in any way we can.
For more information, or if you would like a visit to the school, please don’t hesitate to get in touch.
Best wishes
